NSU Email: Office of President Morning Meeting Summary
Email from Khazmo to NSU briefing members on morning meeting with Abbas' office. This email discusses the President's upcoming meetings schedule with Fatah leaders, the Italian President, and possible meetings with the Al Jazeera board in Qatar for a reconciliation effort.
“The President is then leaving to Qatar. I again raised the need to tackle the issue of Al Jazeera while the leadership is in Qatar. I suggested somebody from the delegation meet with Al Jazeera Board and try to sort out the relation with them. Yesterday, I talked briefly with Shireen Abu Aklen (Al Jazeera Reporter in Ramallah) and informed her of President Abbas visit, and suggested that they can push for some sort of reconciliation efforts. I learned today that Nimer Hamad has been contacted by Al Jazeera, and they are trying to sort out the problem. I think that nothing positive will happen, but I informed Dr. Rafiq that their approach won’t result in anything but more strong language against them from this channel.”

Subject: OoP Morning Meeting
The President is attending the weekly meeting of the Government; he is then meeting with Fatah local leaders, as well as leaders from Gaza.
Tomorrow the Italian President is visiting Bethlehem, and he is meeting President. If anybody has any urgent matters to raise with Italy, the PO would surely welcome the TPs.
Also in Bethlehem, the President will hand in the Presidential decree re the renovation of the Nativity Church to the three main churches. I argued strongly that the other churches need to be at least informed of this decision and kept in the loop.
The President is then leaving to Qatar. I again raised the need to tackle the issue of Al Jazeera while the leadership is in Qatar. I suggested that somebody from the delegation meet with the Al Jazeera board and try to sort out the relation with them. Yesterday, I talked briefly with Shireen Abu Aklen (Al Jazeera reporter in Ramallah) and informed her of President Abbas visit, and suggested that they can push for some sort of reconciliation efforts. I think that nothing positive will happen, but I informed Dr. Rafiq that their approach won't result in anything but more strong language against them from this channel.
The President is not attending the Cairo meeting, Dr. Saeb will be there instead.
